I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your talk at the AweSM-event in Oslo. You were so funny I nearly fell off my seat laughing, and that is quite an achievement, as English people have a 'particular' sense of humour: We don't laugh if it´s not funny! There's nothing quite like a good belly laugh to feel great, and I didn't expect it from a lecture on books, so thank you!
– Gayle Shearer, managing director at Hawley Health Centre
From the very start, Anne Lene managed to capture my attention. Through good body language, good contact with the audience and a large dose of self-irony, she gave me an audience experience that I will remember for a long time. Anne Lene is also a storyteller of rank.
– Arman Vestad, speaker, entrepreneur and author
I first heard Anne Lene talk in connection with a book launch, and a few months later in a lecture. She is so funny, inspiring and engaging to listen to that I could sit and listen for hours!
– Heidi Isager, general manager Makramemekka
"I want to hear more from her". This was my first impression I got from Anne Lene's lecture. The way she made immediate contact with the audience was exceptional! Anne Lene made us laugh, reflect, learn new things, become curious about, admire her and be grateful for her humility and openness. All this in a 1-hour lecture. This is a speaking skill that quite a few people master, and which Anne Lene managed to achieve with enthusiasm from the audience.
– Natalia Torp, coach
Went to the Norwegian Chiropractic Association's course. Very good lecture you gave. Best of the whole weekend for me. I laughed out loud at the joke about the moon landing. Incredibly funny, still laughing.
– Toralf Thomassen, chiropractor at Din Helse
The event went great! Many people discussed how good the quiz was. One of the participants wrote and thanked me and said that "this was great fun, I'm still impressed by that quiz!"
– Tom Sundal-Ask, division manager at Telia, after an internal event with a quiz
About I used to know that! All you learned in school, but now have forgotten:
“Anne Lene writes in a wonderfully playful and funny way. So nice to get the history presented in this way!”
– Mette Bugge, journalist Aftenposten History
“You have done a fantastic job in describing a large topic with good language and in relatively few pages. That is not an easy task!”
– Vegard Lundby Rekaa, astronomer
“…a gem that is suitable for everyone who still has something to learn.”
– Ragnhild Bugge, Fredrikstad Blad
“Keep your mask on in front of colleagues, friends and family. Anne Lene Johnsen has written a crash course in life’s curriculum.”
– Andreas Klemsdal, Finansavisen/Financial Times
About How to get more intelligent:
“Such a broad and comprehensive perspective – it was very surprising! These should be very exciting topics for most people!”
“This is the first time I have seen someone describe this issue so clearly and understandably – it hit home for me!”
“The book is both easy to understand to read, while also having academic weight and not being populist and too simple – very good!”
About the "math book":
Thank you so much for the Fatte Math book. It has become a part of our everyday life, and we are much stronger in helping with homework at home. Math is now one of the subjects our daughter masters best. It literally went from snot and tears to “can we do math first”, and when it stops we all look in the book. So again, thank you so much for helping to make school a little easier for us here at home.
–Arne Evensen, father of Amalie Kristine (10)
I am a retired educator resident in South Africa. Thanks to my grand children I still have a keen interest in education, especially Maths and Science. I have just finished reading the swedish edition of "Hvordan Fatte Matte", an excellent guide to Educators. I have read many books on the subject but have found none as good as this one. But sadly, since there is no english translation, thousands of my colleagues in the english speaking world are missing out. I am therefore appealing to the publishers to consider getting the book translated to english, for the benefit of millions of school kids.
–Bawana Njamela Mr.
I simply just loved that book! I recommended it to a mother who has a daughter who struggles with math. She came back after a while and burst into joy and told me how grateful she was for the recommendation!
–Veronica Sunde, bookseller, Notabene Stryn
Now, after many years, our son has finally learned the time. We used the explanation in the book, and it was absolutely magical!
–Ingunn Brevold, mother of Sigurd (12)
I believe that what you have highlighted with this book is one of the most important things that has been done in the world of education!
–Harald Lindvik, PhD, assistant professor, retired math teacher and principal
I couldn't put this book down. What the authors write about in How to Understand Math is something we often take for granted that students can do. The book was a real eye-opener for me, and the systematic way in which the teaching is structured is very good. I have worked with some of this before, but not so systematically.
–Mona H. Kronborg, teacher
Talk about hitting a math teacher's heart with a big arrow! Is it possible to feel so happy, inspired and ready for new mastery after only having reached page 59 of the book?
–Gunn Rokstad Børnes, teacher
I bought the book, and cried my way through the fantastic fates you describe there. I am a math teacher myself and am very aware of what students ask about. But after reading the book, I suddenly see the students from a completely different angle. I get help to help, and there is little of that at university…
–Anna Jelstad, teacher
When you have worked with the subject for so many years and not always reached your goal, and wondered why, the enthusiasm comes naturally when you come across such a logical key. Brilliant! Incredibly good quality of book, material, lessons and communication. A book that I think everyone will understand and be able to use. This one addresses what EVERYONE needs, from very young children and up. I have worked with some of this, but not in a system, like here, and with an explanation of why. I don't like the word "cookbook", but this is far more than that.
–Grete Kullerud Bauck, retired math teacher and SFO leader
